Who is Lucifer? is Lucifer Satan?
Who is Lucifer? is Lucifer Satan?
It is not biblically stated that Lucifer is evil. In fact, in the Old Testament of the Bible, Lucifer is described as the ‘morning star’ or ‘son of the morning’ in other translations.
Isaiah 14:12 says: ‘How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!’
We often mistakenly associate Lucifer with Satan. However, in the Bible, Satan is not referred to as the morning star but rather masquerades (nagbabalatkayo) as an ‘angel of light’ to deceive humanity.
2 Corinthians 11:14 (NIV) states: ‘And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.’
2 Corinthians 11:14 (KJV) says: ‘And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.’
I believe that Lucifer is a fallen angel. In the Old Testament, there are other angels sent by God, so it implies that Lucifer was one of God’s angels but not Satan.
Interestingly, in the book of Revelation, Jesus is also described as the ‘morning star.’ Some theologians speculate that Jesus might be the fallen angel banished from heaven to fulfill His mission on Earth.
Revelation 22:16 identifies Jesus as ‘the bright morning star.’ Just as the morning star appears before the sun rises, Jesus will come for the church before returning to restore Israel to Himself.
If I am not mistaken, Jesus does not explicitly mention the name ‘Satan.’ Instead, He uses terms like ‘devil’ or ‘enemy.’ In the New Testament, Satan is referred to as a ‘tempter’ (Matthew 4:3), ‘the ruler of the demons’ (Matthew 12:24), ‘the God of this Age’ (2 Corinthians 4:4), ‘the evil one’ (1 John 5:18), and ‘a roaring lion’ (1 Peter 5:8). See, the name ‘Satan’ is not frequently used; alternative terms like ‘deceiver’ or ‘liar’ are employed.
Therefore, if Lucifer is not Satan, then who is Satan? Could Jesus and Lucifer be the same entity, perhaps an angel or even God?
P.S. The translation of the Bible remains a controversial issue, even extending to the name of God, which has been debated by different religions. The problem lies in translation because the Bible was originally written in Hebrew, Greek, or Aramaic. Due to the diversity of translations and languages, we find ourselves with a multitude of different religions. Each religion claims that the real name of God is El Shaddai, Elohim, Adonai, Jehovah Nissi, Yahweh, Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Shalom, Jehovah Shammah, Jehovah Sabaoth, and so on. However, the most commonly used term is simply “God.” Interestingly, even the name of God can be associated with the devil, as other gods are sometimes considered malevolent. The sacred nature of God’s name has led to its prohibition in utterance, contributing to the rich tapestry of diverse religious beliefs.
